The Astrological Chart of Your New Year is a practical guide to reading the year ahead through astrology. Reyhan Sütlü walks readers through the process of casting and interpreting a chart for the beginning of a new year, explaining how planetary positions, house placements and aspects can be used to build a realistic picture of the months to come. Rather than treating the chart as a set of fixed predictions, the book presents it as a map of themes and timing that readers can work with.
The book covers the building blocks needed to understand a yearly chart: the meaning of the Sun, Moon and planets, the twelve houses and what each one governs, and the angles and aspects that connect them. It then shows how to bring these elements together, identifying periods that favour action, reflection, relationship or rest, and pointing out where the chart suggests caution. Worked examples help readers follow the reasoning from a chart's placements to a concrete interpretation.
The Astrological Chart of Your New Year is written for beginners who want a structured introduction to chart reading as well as for those with some experience who wish to apply astrology to planning and self-reflection. Readers will come away with a method they can repeat each year, along with a clearer sense of how astrologers translate symbols into observations about daily life.

A Chapter from the Book: Chapter 1 — A New Age, a New Chart 3
CHAPTER 1 A New Age, a New Chart A Birthday Is Not Just a Birthday Most of us treat a birthday as a moment that passes. There is cake, there are messages from people we haven't spoken to in months, and then the day folds itself away and the year continues as before. But somewhere underneath the celebration, a quieter thing happens: you cross a line. The person who walked into that day is not quite the person who walks out of it. You have a whole new age to grow into, and the questions arrive almost on their own. What will this year change? Will something new open up? Which parts of my life are about to matter more than they used to? This book is about a way of sitting with those questions. In astrology, there is a technique called the solar return — a chart drawn for the exact moment the Sun comes back to the same position it held when you were born. That moment happens once a year, close to your birthday, and the chart cast for it is read as a portrait of the year ahead. The idea is not that the chart decides anything for you. It is a map you consult, the way you might check a weather report before deciding whether to carry an umbrella. The forecast doesn't walk the road for you, and it can be wrong. But it can help you notice what you might otherwise walk straight past. It is worth being clear about what this is not. It is not a prediction machine, and it will not tell you that you will meet someone in March or change jobs in June. It is not a replacement for your own judgment, your plans, or the advice of people who know you well. In the astrological tradition it is held that the solar return chart shows themes, emphases, and atmospheres — where the year's attention is likely to gather — rather than fixed events. Treat it as a lens for reflection, not a script you are handed. That distinction matters, because it is the difference between a tool that helps you think and a fortune slip that lets you stop thinking. The Two Charts, Side by Side You may already have seen a birth chart, or at least a picture of one: a circle divided into twelve slices, with symbols scattered around it. The solar return chart looks almost identical. The same circle, the same twelve slices, the same symbols. What differs is the moment it describes. Your birth chart is a snapshot of the sky at the instant you were born, and in the astrological tradition it is read as a picture of your underlying makeup — the disposition you carry with you, the patterns you keep running into across your whole life. It doesn't change. It is the same chart at twenty that it was at two.
The solar return chart is a snapshot of a different instant: the moment, roughly a year after your last birthday, when the Sun returns to that same spot in the sky it occupied at your birth. Because the Sun's return doesn't land neatly on the calendar date — it can fall a day before or a day after, at any hour — the chart is cast for that precise moment and, in most practice, for the place you happen to be at the time. That is the chart this book is about. If the birth chart is the terrain you were given, the solar return chart is closer to the weather over that terrain for the coming year. Same landscape, different season. Here is why the distinction is worth holding onto. When people first meet this technique, they often expect the yearly chart to overwrite the birth chart, to introduce new traits or cancel old ones. In the astrological tradition it is generally held that it does not work that way. The birth chart remains the foundation; the solar return is read as a layer on top of it, a set of temporary emphases. A theme that lights up in your yearly chart isn't a stranger arriving at your door. It is usually something already present in your birth chart, stepping forward for a year. That is why the same solar return placement can feel so different for two people born under different skies — the yearly chart is speaking to a life that already has a shape. What the Sun's Return Actually Means The whole technique hinges on one simple fact, which is worth slowing down for. From our viewpoint on Earth, the Sun appears to travel a slow circle through the sky over the course of a year, passing through the twelve signs of the zodiac. It takes about a month to cross each sign, and a full year to complete the circuit. Astrologers measure its position along this circle in degrees — a full circle being 360 of them. At the moment of your birth, the Sun sat at a specific degree of a specific sign. In the astrological tradition, that solar position is considered the anchor of the birth chart, which is why your Sun sign is the one most people know about themselves. A year later — very nearly a year, not exactly — the Sun comes back around to that same degree. That homecoming is the solar return. In the astrological tradition it is held that this is when one personal year closes and the next begins, which is why the technique attaches itself so naturally to birthdays.
